Fundraising Update - $249,165 DOWN, $250,834 TO GO

Hello friend,

We are $834 away from the halfway mark as we continue down the path of raising $500,000 to cover the first 2 years operating expenses for Farming with Friends.

Our original plan was to meet our $500,000 goal by December 31, 2023, and we’re going to make a run at raising as much money as we can between now and then. But realistically, it looks like we will meet our $500,000 goal some time in the spring of 2024…which is still INCREDIBLE!

Thank you to all who have contributed thus far, and for those who haven’t, I’ll be reaching out in the future to see if you’re willing and able to help us out. 😊

Also, stay tuned for details on a fundraising event we will be hosting in the spring. We haven’t nailed down the date yet, but it looks like we will host it sometime in mid-April.

I think it’s important for folks to know why we’re raising the amount we’re raising and how we intend to use the money, so below, I’m going to answer some finance related questions about Farming with Friends…

Why are you raising $500,000?

We have a goal of raising $500,000 by December 31, 2023 because this is the approximate amount that we will need to sustain operations for our first 2 years of existence. This amount includes salaries, insurance, taxes, fees, benefits, infrastructure, equipment, livestock, feed, seed, education, travel, technology, office supplies, and costs related to events.

Why for the first 2 years?

We’re raising our first 2 years operating expenses on the front-end because we believe that a healthy non-profit always has 1 year of operating expenses in the account. In our experience leading non-profits, we’ve found that operating on a shoestring budget or operating under the fear that the money is going to run out is no way to go about effectively accomplishing the mission. We believe in budgeting from a thrive mentality as opposed to a survive mentality, and then we believe in working hard to raise the money needed for the organization to thrive. We believe that these are principles of good stewardship that honor the mission God has called us to and honor the resources with which He has entrusted us. Overall, we want to ensure that the organization is financially sound for the long term, so we can focus the bulk of our energy on accomplishing the mission rather than worrying about money.

I also know that Farming with Friends will be selling products like eggs, meat, vegetables, fruit, and more. Do you have any goals related to supporting the organization via product sales (as opposed to being supported solely through donations)?

Yes. We have goals related to supporting the organization through product sales. By the end of year 3 (2026), we’d like to offset all employee wages with product sales. In other words, we’d like to sell enough product that the revenues from our product sales cover the entirety of our costs of employing workers. We love our donors and receiving donations. However, once again, we want to steward well that which God has given us. He has provided us with a beautiful 87-acre farm that is (literally) ripe with opportunities to create quality food for our community, so we want to utilize this resource to create revenue to help sustain our activities. This will help us begin to establish a comfortable balance between revenues coming from donations and revenues coming from products sales. We also have a couple of additional ideas for creating revenue including collecting government funding where we can and providing farming education opportunities for the community. Our goal is to diversify our revenue streams so we’re not overly reliant on any one of them.

Can I contribute in-kind donations to Farming with Friends?

Of course! You can contribute items to Farming with Friends. Below is a list of some of our most pressing current needs:

Lumber for Mobile Infrastructure (mobile housing for our chickens)

I have two stipulations with respect to in-kind donations:

1) Please reach out to me prior to purchasing anything or investing in anything you’d like to donate. I want to protect you from spending money on something that will not fit our needs.

2) Please don’t use this as an opportunity to send us your junk. 😊 We are not above lightly used donations that are still in good shape, but if it’s going to cost us more in time and money to keep an item running or make an item useful than it’s worth, it’s not a good option for us.

Are donations to Farming with Friends tax deductible?

Yes. Farming with Friends is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization.

How can I donate to Farming with Friends?

1) Visit and follow the prompts to make your donation through our secure online giving website. Farming with Friends will incur a 1% charge for ACH/EFT transactions as opposed to a 2.9% charge for debit/credit card transactions. Additionally, the ACH/EFT option keeps us from having to update information every time you get a new card. With that said, please feel free to donate in whatever way works best for you.


2) Send a check made out to “Farming with Friends” to 3320 Woodling Way, Medina, OH 44256.
